Mascaro Construction presented the third annual Sweet Night on the North Side concert and gourmet dessert fundraiser on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the New Hazlett Theater.  The fundraiser was held to benefit the youth education programs of New Hope for Neighborhood Renewal, a non profit organization located in the Marshall Shadeland neighborhood.  The Y.E.S. (Youth Experiencing Success) program for elementary students and the S.T.E.P. (Students Trained Equipped and Prepared) program for high school juniors and seniors directly benefit from the funds raised at Sweet Night.  The Y.E.S. program partners with 4-H in presenting a “hands on” learning curriculum including building air powered rockets, lessons in physics application and drama to name a few.  The S.T.E.P. program prepares students for post high school educational opportunities through training in time management, intercultural communication, racial reconciliation and servant leadership.  Graduates of the S.T.E.P. program receive a $400 stipend and a $600 scholarship paid to the educational institution of their choice.

The evening featured jazz pianist and composer, Rick Gallagher, the soulful sounds of singer songwriter, Joy Ike and the high energy music of Flo Wilson and the Old School Band.  Jeff Hartings, Pro Bowl Center and member of the 2006 Super Bowl Champion Steelers and his lovely wife, Rebecca were honorary chairpersons.  Delicious desserts were provided by Priory Fine Pastries, Bistro To Go, Vanilla Pastry Studio, John V. Heineman, Paddy Cake Bakery, Moio’s Italian Pastry Shop, Edible Arrangments, Monica’s Fudge and gelato from the Café ‘n Creamery, a social enterprise of New Hope for Neighborhood Renewal.
